Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, expressed his opinion on LGBT+ activities, denouncing them as incompatible with his traditionalist and Christian values.

The Ga leader expressed doubts about the Western view of same-sex partnerships and suggested that supporting polygamy would be more in line with his moral principles.

“I think polygamy should be encouraged in the West. Why do they believe polygamy is wrong and support same-sex relationships? He was quoted by citinewsroom.com as saying in an interview.

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II brushed off questions regarding his position on the anti-LGBT+ measure that is currently awaiting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s approval as unimportant.

He stated his opinion that the rights and preferences of individuals should not be the main topic of discussion in public.

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Ghanaian Parliament passed the Promotion of Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, also known as the anti-LGBT+ bill, amidst all of this.

This measure, which is still for presidential approval, criminalises the advocacy, promotion, and financial support of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) individuals and forbids any actions connected to them.

Infringers of these regulations may be sentenced to three to five years in jail, and those who encourage or support such acts may face penalties of the same length.

Nevertheless, citing legal problems, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has denied to sign the bill into law.
