Lilwin could face five years in prison – Lawyer

Martin Kpebu, a private attorney, has discussed the prospect of Kwadwo Nkansah, better known as Lilwin, the actor, serving a jail sentence. 

Lilwin was arraigned before a court of competent authority on Monday, June 3, 2024. The actor was accused of driving recklessly and inconsiderately, which caused one death. 

Nonetheless, a GHC 50,000 bail with two sureties was given to him. Martin Kpebu made a comment regarding Kwadwo Nkansah’s potential punishment in the event that he is found guilty of the charges brought against him.

He suggested that he might end himself behind bars. Prison time is one option for punishment, but most often, fines are assessed. 

But in extremely serious situations, incarceration may be necessary, with a maximum sentence of five years, Kpebu clarified in a Joy FM interview. 

According to him, Lilwin must be imprisoned since a 3-year-old has died, and this would serve as a deterrence to many careless drivers in Ghana. “We don’t accuse them of manslaughter very often. So, is it driving carelessly, dangerously, etc.? Indeed. 

Every year during the last ten years, traffic accidents have claimed the lives of around 2000 persons. However, we don’t see drivers serving lengthy prison sentences.
