In her posthumous memoir From Here to the Great Unknown, Lisa Marie Presley candidly discusses her past decisions, including an abortion she had while dating Danny Keough.
The memoir, completed by her daughter Riley Keough after Lisa Marie’s passing, sheds light on the emotional struggles she faced during her relationship with Keough, whom she married from 1988 to 1994.
Reflecting on her experiences, Lisa Marie shared that during her early months of dating Danny, she experienced severe abdominal pain that led to an emergency room visit.
Initially suspected to be an appendicitis, surgery revealed it was an ectopic pregnancy, marking a painful beginning to her journey with motherhood.
She later recounted a second pregnancy with Danny, revealing their uncertainty about how to proceed. “I ended up having an abortion,” she wrote, expressing deep remorse and labeling it “the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my whole life.”
The emotional aftermath left her devastated, and both she and Danny struggled with the decision.

Following the procedure, Lisa Marie recalled feelings of guilt and heartbreak, which contributed to the couple’s eventual breakup. “I couldn’t live with myself,” she admitted, noting how the experience haunted her.
Determined to redeem her past choices, she meticulously planned to conceive again. Lisa Marie shared her internal dialogue, expressing her desire for forgiveness from the lost child.
When she reunited with Danny, she hoped to become pregnant without revealing her intentions, stating, “I felt that I had to redeem, to make amends.”
Just weeks after their reunion, Lisa Marie discovered she was pregnant, leading to their marriage shortly thereafter. The couple welcomed their daughter, Riley, in May 1989, followed by son Benjamin in October 1992.
Throughout her life, Lisa Marie faced significant challenges, including a turbulent series of marriages and the tragic loss of her son Benjamin in 2020.
Riley has spoken about her mother’s struggles, emphasizing the profound impact of Benjamin’s death on Lisa Marie’s health.
“My mom tried her best to find strength for me and my younger sisters after Ben died,” Riley shared. “But we knew how much pain she was in.”
