The 22-year-old continues to be linked with a move to Anfield as speculation about his future in France persists ahead of his contract expiring in 2022.

While Neymar agreed on a three-year extension, he does not boast the same level of interest from across the continent and was, therefore, more willing to commit his long-term future.

With Mbappe waiting until after EURO 2020 to decide whether to extend his deal, much will depend on PSG’s summer transfer business.

Yet a summer exit for Mbappe is by no means certain with the report suggesting he is open to staying at PSG, a club ‘he loves dearly’ as the Ligue 1 giants look to tie him down to an extension.

However, the length of a new deal remains a sticking point for the forward.

This is because Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, and Man City are all reportedly interested in his services and would be in a better position to make such a swoop once the footballing world continues to settle after the coronavirus pandemic.

Heading into the final week of the Ligue 1 season, they trail league-leaders Lille by a solitary point but lost to Man City in the Champions League semi-finals after suffering defeat to Bayern Munich in last year’s final.

With PSG needing to strengthen to avoid repeats of such failure, the report highlights the right-back position and in midfield in particular.

Mbappe is said to be waiting to see who the Ligue 1 giants sign this summer before deciding whether he is willing to commit his future to the club or look elsewhere.

Whether a move to Liverpool ever comes to fruition for Mbappe remains to be seen but the Reds will no doubt be one of a number of clubs continuing to monitor his situation in France with great interest over the forthcoming months.
