In the wake of the revelation, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel, dropped the central forwarder for the game against Liverpool – which ended in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge. Sadio Mane and Mo Salah were on targets to give the reds a comfortable two goal-lead while Kovacic and Pullisic restored parity – just before the stroke of half-time.
Lukaku was dropped for the game amidst tensions and speculation – some football analysts are of the opinion that the Belgian striker might return to Italy soon. Even so, the central attacker also gave a hint of a possible future move to Inter Milan in the
interview.
Romelu’s agent further added that Chelsea should enjoy the striker for now as he might return to Italy someday. This development has placed a question mark on the Belgian’s future at the club.
Nonetheless, on the eve of the saga, the English Premier League striker later apologised to the club and fans for making such utterances.
Lukaku apologises to Chelsea Fans
Lukaku Said: “To the fans, I’m sorry for the upset that I’ve caused.”
“Obviously it’s up to me now to restore your trust, and I’ll do my best every day to show commitment on the training ground and in games to make sure we win games.
“And also to the manager, my teammates and the board, I apologise, because I think it was not the right moment, also.
“And I want to move forward from this and make sure that we start winning football games and make sure that I start performing for the team in the best manner”.
Furthermore, it is pertinent to note that the Belgian forwarder began his career at Everton FC. The attacking footballer later moved to Stamford Bridge where he spend three seasons before moving to Manchester United.
The forwarder was later signed by Inter Milan and he helped the team to win the Italian Seria A trophy. Lukaku spent 2 years in Milan before he was re-signed by Chelsea for a fee of £98 million which is equivalent to $132 million.
The striker is still struggling to adapt to life at Stamford Bridge after being on excellent form with Inter Milan; registering a host of goals and assists.
However, the Belgian forwarder has made a promise to Chelsea fans to score goals and help the team to lift trophies.
