Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that his acceptance of the December 7 general election results hinges entirely on the fairness, transparency, and credibility of the process.
In a recent interview with BBC, Mahama expressed concerns over potential irregularities and violence that could undermine the integrity of the elections.
Mahama highlighted several critical issues he believes could jeopardize the electoral process, such as ballot snatching, voter intimidation, military interference, and the activities of political thugs.
He posed a thought-provoking question to underscore his stance: “If on election day, there is widespread ballot snatching, beating of people, military intimidation, and thugs causing chaos, you expect me to accept that result?”
His message was unequivocal—he would only accept the outcome if the process is transparent and credible.

His comments come at a time when tensions are running high over the upcoming elections, with concerns about the potential for violence and electoral malpractice.
Mahama made it clear that for the election to be legitimate, it must be free from violence, intimidation, and any other form of misconduct that could compromise the voting process.
Additionally, Mahama called on the Electoral Commission of Ghana to ensure a level playing field and to take the necessary steps to maintain public confidence in the electoral process.
He emphasized the importance of a fair and credible election for the preservation of Ghana’s democracy.
As the election approaches, Mahama’s statements have added to the growing discussions around electoral transparency and integrity, with many watching closely to see how the process will unfold.
