An Ohio man has been arrested after a 15-month-old girl died from injuries he allegedly caused when he slammed her to the floor.
The toddler, Vivian Gardner, was reportedly attacked by Michael Mayor, 34, on December 5 when he was left alone with the child and others by a babysitter.
According to police records, the babysitter became concerned when Gardner did not wake up from her nap and was unresponsive. Upon checking on the child, the babysitter found her pale, with bruises on her head.
Mayor admitted to authorities that when the toddler wouldn’t stop crying, he became frustrated and “shook” her before slamming her onto the bedroom floor repeatedly.
He claimed that after the child stopped crying, he assumed she had fallen asleep and left her on the floor.
Paramedics responded to the scene, and Gardner was flown to Dayton Children’s Hospital where doctors discovered she had suffered a skull fracture and a subdural hematoma, a brain injury caused by bleeding.

Despite receiving medical care, Gardner passed away from her injuries on December 19.
Mayor had previously been charged with felonious assault and endangering children, and he remains in Miami County Jail on a $1 million bond.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed Gardner’s death, and the case is under further investigation.
