A man has been arrested and charged with murder after human remains were discovered at a property in Buffalo, Texas, in connection with a missing persons case involving a mother and child.
Michael Dean Davis Jr., 27, was apprehended in Laredo on November 12 and charged with the murder of Mahogany Washington, 27, whose remains were found at a home in Buffalo on October 22. Washington, a mother of an 8-year-old boy, had been missing since July 2022, along with her son.
The remains were positively identified as Washington’s, according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation into the missing woman and child had led authorities to search the property where the remains were discovered.

Davis, the father of Washington’s child, was arrested in Laredo, where law enforcement had received tips that he was living with the missing boy.
After Davis’ arrest, the child, who was unharmed, was safely placed into the care of Child Protective Services.
Authorities had concerns about Davis being armed and a potential threat to both the child and law enforcement, which led to a carefully coordinated operation to arrest him.
The Laredo Police Department, U.S. Marshals, and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office all worked together to ensure a safe resolution.
Davis is currently being held on a $3 million bond at the Webb County Jail.
To that effect, the Laredo Police Department stated in their release that:
This was a joint effort by multiple agencies to secure the arrest of a violent individual and safely recover a missing child
The investigation into Davis’ involvement in Washington’s death and the circumstances surrounding the boy’s disappearance is ongoing.
