Authorities in Seabrook, Texas, are hunting for 22-year-old Dawayland Hurst, the prime suspect in the stabbing murder of 23-year-old MaryJayne Collins, a mother of two.
Investigators believe that Hurst’s relationship with Collins was a carefully orchestrated scheme of revenge connected to a tragic event from four years prior.
In July 2020, Hurst’s half-brother, Diajwan Triplett, was murdered by Michael King, the father of Collins’ two children.
Police allege that Hurst’s pursuit of Collins, which began in June 2024, was driven by a desire to exact revenge on King.
Evidence suggests that Hurst taunted King during a FaceTime call shortly before Collins’ death, which took place on October 4.

According to reports, during the call, Hurst was seen behaving aggressively, even slapping one of Collins’ children.
Friends of Collins reported that she confided in them about suffering abuse at Hurst’s hands, showing visible injuries.
On the day of her death, a video call from King was made from prison, leading to troubling interactions. Collins was last seen alive during this call, where she was heard pleading for Hurst to “get away” from her child.
Concerned friends alerted the authorities after seeing a Facebook post from King’s mother urging people to check on Collins.
When police arrived at Collins’ apartment, they discovered her lifeless body. While both of her sons were found unharmed, they were understandably frightened.
The investigation revealed that Hurst had assaulted one of the children shortly before officers arrived.
A doorbell camera captured Hurst leaving the apartment just before police intervention, taking an unusual route.
The Seabrook Police Department emphasized that they believe Hurst acted out of revenge for his brother’s murder, leading to Collins’ abuse and ultimately her tragic death.
Hurst remains at large, and Collins’ family is calling for justice. Her children will be cared for by their grandmother, with a GoFundMe set up to support the family during this difficult time.
