About two hours later, Ratel returned to his sister’s home, where he confessed to kicking and trampling on Lachporia’s head.

Alarmed, his sister called their mother, who noticed Ratel’s bloodied shoes. Concerned for Lachporia’s safety, she urged Ratel to check on her.

However, after repeated attempts to reach Lachporia went unanswered, her body was discovered two days later, concealed under a blanket in her home.

Despite the overwhelming evidence, Ratel pleaded not guilty. During the trial, both his mother and sister were declared hostile witnesses after they retracted their earlier statements.

The prosecution, led by Senior State Advocate Anel Stellenberg, emphasized Ratel’s lack of remorse and his dangerousness, arguing for a severe sentence to reflect the gravity of his actions.

In her ruling, the judge reiterated the court’s commitment to combat domestic violence and protect victims’ rights.

The life sentence, along with the additional assault charges, serves as a strong message against such heinous crimes.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomed the ruling, reinforcing its dedication to pursuing justice for victims and advocating for harsher penalties for perpetrators of domestic violence.
