Man United and Chelsea to battle for Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez

By Xorkpe Sosu 4 Min Read

Manchester United and Chelsea are to battle for signing of Argentina’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa as they both are in search of a Goalkeeper.

The 6 foot 4 inch Argentine goalkeeper has established a reputation for himself as one of the top goaltenders in the world.

Martinez’s value has increased since he moved from Arsenal to Villa in a €21.8 million deal in September 2020, and as of right now, Martinez is estimated to be worth £22 million by Transfermarkt.

In his first campaign at Villa Park, he recorded a Premier League-high 15 clean sheet, and his second campaign saw Argentina win the Copa America.

He is now a world champion with his nation, having defeated the Netherlands on penalties in the quarterfinal and France in the final to earn the Golden Glove.Man United and Chelsea to battle for Emiliano Martinez signature

Martinez put on a great performance in the title fight against France when he stopped Randal Kolo Muani’s shot in the final moments.

He later played a crucial role in Argentina’s victory in the penalty shootouts by stopping two efforts from Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni.

Martinez was labeled as phenomenal by Lionel Messi after Argentina won the Copa America the previous year. He has a contract till June 2027 at Villa Park.

Emi Martinez’s agent has openly stated that Aston Villa might struggle to hold onto him.

‘Aiming for the Champions League’

“Today, there are very few teams that can afford a goalkeeper like him,” Gustavo Goni told TUTTOmercatoWEB.

“But Serie A, well, why not? Clearly, we’re aiming high, for the Champions League.”

The player is currently valued at €40.5m by Football Transfers’ in-house algorithm, despite the fact that Italian clubs may be interested in Martinez. Villa, who extorted €118m from Manchester City for Jack Grealish in the summer of 2021, may demand more.

Martinez is more in line for Premier League clubs with that type of money, and two of the league’s giants, Manchester United and Chelsea, are having issues with the position.

Erik ten Hag is apparently not convinced by David de Gea’s ability to play the ball, and United are prepared to let his contract expire in the summer.

While Kepa Arrizabalaga has been reinstated as Chelsea’s first choice since Graham Potter took over as manager in place of Thomas Tuchel, the Englishman still has some reservations about the Spaniard.

Bayern Munich has also been linked with a bid for the 30-year-old after their star player Manuel Neuer fractured his leg while skiing after Germany’s World Cup group stage loss.
