“However, the Argentinian defender is expected to make a full recovery in time to be ready for the start of next season.”

His absence will pose another starting XI conundrum for manager Erik ten Hag.

The injury suffered by Martinez is a fractured metatarsal in his right foot, as confirmed by United. Recovery time for this type of injury can range from six weeks to several months, and surgical intervention is often necessary.

This news is making some United fans anxious, as they wait for updates on the length of Martinez’s recovery period.

Lisandro Martinez’s season has come to an end, and as a result, he will miss at least 10 games. United has indicated that they anticipate the defender will be healthy for the start of the 2023/24 season.

The 2-2 draw with Sevilla has put United’s Europa League progress in jeopardy, and they must defeat Brighton in the FA Cup semi-finals to advance to the final.

If United were to reach the final of both competitions, Martinez would miss an additional four games in addition to those already scheduled for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

“I have a lot [of faith],” said Ten Hag.

“I think I have decent centre-halves and they proved that in the past, they have proved this season.”

“I think we have four or five very good centre-halves who can do the job.”
