Man United targets Milinkovic-Savic as Frenkie de Jong’s alternative

Manchester United has joined the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea to bid for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as an alternative for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong should he refuse an Old Trafford transfer.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have made contact with Lazio over the availability of the midfielder after strengthening in multiple areas this summer but are in search of a midfielder capable of playing a deeper role.

The Old Trafford side had already been interested in the Serbian midfielder several years ago with the Serie A side demanding over €100m from Man United.

The Red Devils have been frustrated in their pursuit of the Dutch and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, it is believed his club is open to a sale but the player is unwilling to join United.

Manchester United opted for the Serbian midfielder after the Dutch were unwilling to join United due to their failure to qualify for the Champions League and that could also be another issue for the Lazio man.

The 27-year-old who is one of the world’s leading box-to-box midfielders has 58 goals in 294 appearances for Lazio, his form tells why Man United has been tracking the Serbian since Jose Mourinho’s era.

Man United will have to convince the Serbian to join as he is involved in Champions League football

The Serbian who is regarded as one of Serie A’s leading midfielders is still under contract until June 2024 and has made no suggestion he wants to leave Lazio.

However, there is a feeling that the Serbian midfielder who scored 11 league goals last season will be sold by the club if they receive a better offer.

Arsenals, Chelsea and Manchester United are all busy in the transfer window so far, as they aim to build a squad worthy of competing with Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

According to reports, Lazio director Igli Tare recently traveled to London to meet Arsenal technical director Edu to discuss a potential deal but the Gunners failed to meet Laio’s asking price of £59.6m – £68m (€70m – €80m) with the Gunners believing to pay £45m – £50m.

Firstly, despite reports that Lazio’s stance was softening, Arsenal technical director Edu was reportedly left stunned by their £59.6m – £68m (€70m – €80m) valuation.
That was beyond what Arsenal was seemingly prepared to pay,

Chelsea may be a preferred choice ahead of Manchester United for the Serbian due to Champions League football, the Red Devils will need to pull some magic to convince the midfielder to Old Trafford.

Milinkovic-Savic could offer a much-needed goal threat for United if they sign the Serbian. His addition to United’s new squad will be a major boost and very difficult for teams to walk over the Red devils like last season.
