In a letter from his federal prison cell, Routh warned that a second term for Trump could lead to “the end of democracy” and even spark a “civil war.”

Routh, 58, sent the letter to the Palm Beach Post, urging residents to reject Trump in the upcoming election. He expressed concerns that Trump would not “let go of power” if re-elected, describing the former president as a potential dictator.

Routh signed the letter as “Trump Alleged Shooter Ryan W. Routh” but did not directly address the assassination attempt.

“I hope Palm Beach County will stand up for democracy,” Routh wrote. “Please help ensure our country doesn’t fall into the hands of a dictator for the next century.”

He also asked, “How does Palm Beach view its neighbor?” in what seemed to be a call for local residents to play a leading role in preserving American values.

The letter came just weeks after prosecutors warned that Routh might try to influence public opinion.

His public defenders, however, argued that the government had been the primary source of information regarding the case, pointing out statements from the DOJ, FBI, and Secret Service.

Routh’s arrest stemmed from an incident on September 15, when he was found lurking near Trump’s golf course with a rifle aimed at the former president.

After shots were fired, Secret Service agents quickly apprehended Routh. Authorities later discovered a troubling array of items in his vehicle, including multiple cellphones, a list of Trump’s appearances, and even a Google search on how to travel to Mexico.
