A 24-year-old Chinese man, identified only as Mr. A by local media, has garnered attention after opening up about the challenges he has faced since getting a dramatic skull tattoo on his face six years ago.
Once a symbol of rebellion and personal expression, the tattoo has become a significant obstacle in his life, making it nearly impossible to secure employment or lead a normal life.
Morning Star News recently highlighted Mr. A’s remarkable appearance, which sparked a lot of conversation on Chinese social media.
He revealed the long-term effects of his decision to have a skull tattoo on his face, which he made during a turbulent time in his life when he battled depression.
The elaborate tattoo includes darkened areas around his eyes, a nose resembling a skull cavity, teeth inked over his mouth, and a brain pattern drawn on his shaved head. While he initially embraced the bold look, Mr. A soon realized the extent to which it would impact his daily life.
“The past six years have been very difficult for me and my family,” Mr. A admitted. “I couldn’t find a job, was often insulted by netizens when doing live broadcasts, and it was very difficult to use Face ID on my phone. It was really embarrassing.”

His tattoo also created complications when updating identification documents, further isolating him from regular societal functions. Below is a video showing Mr. A.
In October, Mr. A decided to start the difficult tattoo removal procedure since he was determined to go forward, he began by getting tattoos on his arms, which were uncomfortable but bearable. But getting rid of the ink on his face has been a very different problem.
“I have been removing tattoos for over 10 years, but this case is the most difficult,” the technician responsible for Mr. A’s procedure explained. “His tattoo is dark in color, covers a large area, and includes highly sensitive regions, such as the corners of the eyes and tear glands.”
The technician uses a low-intensity laser to minimize the risk of damage in these delicate areas, but the process is excruciating. After his first facial session, Mr. A experienced severe pain that triggered heart problems, forcing him to pause for recovery.

Despite the challenges, Mr. A remains optimistic, believing that another four or five sessions will enable him to fully remove the tattoo and start afresh. “I’m looking forward to living a normal life again,” he said.
His story has divided popular opinion on the internet. While some applaud his courage for owning up to his mistakes and making amends, others view his experience as a warning to young people who are thinking about making drastic body changes.
