The Premier League champions along with their biggest domestic rivals Liverpool are now closely monitoring developments regarding Saka’s future as he heads into the final two years of his contract at the Emirates.

The England international who remains under contract with Arsenal until 2024 has enjoyed a stellar season for the Gunners, playing a lead role in their improvement under Mikel Arteta.

The 20-year-old ended the 2021-22 season as the Gunners’ top scorer in all competitions with 12 strikes and assisting 7 goals, 11 of which came in 38 Premier League appearances but fell short in their attempts to qualify for the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta and Edu’s top priority this summer is tying Bukayo Saka to a new deal at the Emirates that reflects the club’s increasing reliance on the 20-year-old.

The Gunners would face the prospect of losing their starlet should they fail to agree fresh terms with Saka.

Saka  and Mikel Arteta’s side are expected to enter talks over a new contract soon.

However, the lack of top-tier European football has increased confidence from EPL leading duo that the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year nominee’s contract situation will go unresolved beyond the summer.

Manchester City are long-term admirers of the 20-year-old, they are reported to have step up their interest this summer as they eye a future deal, although they will have to battle their biggest domestic rivals Liverpool for his signature.

The Premier League champions have already secured the headline signing of Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland, but are now eyeing long term replacements for the likes of Riyad Mahrez whose contract expires 2023, and Raheem Sterling is thought to be contemplating a move away from the Etihad at the end of next season.

Liverpool have registered an interest in Saka with Jurgen Klopp planning for the eventual departures of Sadio Mane amid interest from German champions Bayern Munich while they are also running the risk of losing Mohamed Salah on a free transfer next season.

The former Watford youngster Bukayo Saka currently has two years remaining on his contract at the Emirates, including an option held by the club to extend his deal a further year if required.

Arsenal have entered into initial discussions with Saka over contract extension but talks have been complicated after missing out on a return to the Champions League.

The Gunners haven’t featured in the tournament since 2017 and with Manchester United destined to improve under Erik ten Hag, competition for a top four place will be as intense as ever next term.
