Manchester United began their season with an outstanding performance on Saturday by beating Leeds United 5-1.

United started well and took the lead in the first half through Bruno Fernandes, who benefitted from a sublime pass from Paul Pogba. The pair didn’t stop there, they also delivered world-class performances.

Although Leeds United stunned Manchester United after the break with a Luke Ayling delight from distance, United were quick to bounce back.

Goals from Greenwood and another two goals from Fernandes made it 4-1 up, United then had an unlikely player Fred who found the back of the net and it was Pogba again who assisted.

The Frenchman created four goals in total which means he’s already surpassed his total of three league assists from last season – he was phenomenal on the pitch.

However it was Paul Pogba who likely stole the show, with four assists to compete with Fernandes’ impressive hat-trick of goals.

Manchester United weren’t the only team to enjoy an opening-day win on saturday, Thomas Tuchel’s side made short work of Crystal Palace with a 3-0 win.

Goals from Marcos Alonso, Christian Pulisic and a particularly impressive long-range effort from youth graduate Trevoh Chalobah ensured an unfortunate and rather blunt introduction to the Premier League for new Palace manager Patrick Vieira.

Elsewhere in the 3pm kick offs Brighton and Everton made spirited comebacks after going behind to Burnley and Southampton respectively.

Leicester City picked up a hard-fought win over Wolves and Aston Villa began the new season with Jack Grealish with a 3-2 defeat to Watford.

Norwich were picked apart by Liverpool as goals from Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah ensured Jurgen Klopp’s side a joint-second place finish in the league alongside Chelsea after one matchday.
