Marcelo is nearing the end of his football career, with the Brazilian left-back considering retiring at the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Brazilian who had been a key figure in Madrid’s first team for over a decade had now lost his starting berth in recent years after Ferland Mendy’s arrival from Lyon in 2019.

The 33 old Brazilian was limited to just 31 La Liga appearances across the past two full seasons due to multiple leg muscular injuries in recent campaigns.

Real Madrid captain Marcelo is set to leave the club after 15 years to draw the curtain on his trophy-laden spell in the Spanish capital after making 533 first-team appearances and won 22 trophies.

He is currently level with Paco Gento on 23 titles won with Real Madrid and the 33-year-old would like to take top spot for himself, which he can do if Los Blancos win LaLiga Santander or the Champions League this term.

According to Paco Gonzalez who is renowned Spanish journalist, the Real Madrid’s Captain will retire and move into modelling.

He isn’t going to continue playing football,” Paco Gonzalez, the director of Cadena Cope’s ‘Tiempo De Juego’ programme, explained.

He wants to win another title with Real Madrid to have one more than Gento and then he’ll say goodbye to football.

“Then, his future plan is to be a model for a North American clothing brand, possibly one that sells boxer shorts.”
