Marco Asensio’s hat-trick, Benzema’s brace saw Real Madrid return to the top of La Liga after 6-1 victory over Mallorca

Hat-trick from the former Mallorcan midfielder, two from Karim Benzema and Isco saw Real Madrid trashed Mallorca to cement first place in the league table.

Real Madrid beat Mallorca 6-1 to continue their unbeaten run since the start of the season. Los Blancos moved back to the top of the league standings after a convincing win over Mallorca on wednesday night.

Karim Benzema and Isco also found the net for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in a 6-1 win at the Bernabeu but it was Marco Asensio, the former Mallorcan midfielder who stole the show.

The Man who stole the whole show but couldn’t celebrate his goals against his former side

Los Blancos dominated the game and were happy to take advantage of an error prone Mallorca side from start to finish.

An electrifying start when Karim Benzema latched onto a missed controlled ball by Gayá and fired the ball past Reina to net his seventh goal of the league campaign after with just three minutes on the clock.

In the 7th minute, the hosts almost doubled their lead when Marco Asensio’s in-swinging corner kick was cleared off the line by the defence.

The errors and bad bounces kept coming for Mallorca, Marco Asensio On 24′ min, was happy to take advantage of his former side, taking a ball that deflected off a defender and goalkeeper Manolo Reina and firing into net to make it 2-0.

Mallorca’s response was immediate, as Kang In Lee took a pass from Mathew Hoppe to produced a fine piece of individual skill before curling the ball superbly past thibaut Courtois to make it 2-1.

It was almost too simple for Asensio to find a second in 29’min, with Eder Militao playing up-field to Benzema, who laid off a pass to the running Asensio and the finish was perfect for a 3-1 lead.

The intensity did not let up after the break and Real Madrid came close to a fourth goal on two separate occasions. Firstly, Benzema played the ball into the path of Vinicius Jr but his spectacular left-footed cut-back to his marker in the 48th minute was kept out by Reina.

Rodrygo then picked up the ball in his own half, raced past Battaglia, and delivered a perfect ball for Benzema to head home. The goal was ruled out by Alberola Rojas after he spotted a foul by the striker.

The fourth goal which was Marco Asensio’s hat-trick came in the 55′ min, receiving the ball on the edge of the area before firing in a left-footed shot that Reina could do nothing about.

With a comfortable three-goal cushion and a full half-hour to go, Ancelotti went to his bench for the first time, relieving Camavinga for Antonio Blanco, followed later by hat-trick hero Asensio being replaced by Isco, plus Lucas Vazquez on for Rodrygo.

Benzema then basically finished off his day the way he started it, Benzema brought down a long ball from David Alaba splitting the Mallorca defence and sweeping home a shot that took a deflection and beat goalkeeper Reina to extend it to 5-1 in the 78’min.

 

There was still more to see when in the 84th minute, Isco added the finishing touches after Vinicius pass to round out the 6-1 scoreline.

Eight goals in the competition for the Frenchman, moving ahead of the rest as top scorer.
