Court issues bench warrant for the arrest of Mark Okraku Mantey

Ghana’s deputy minister of tourism, arts, and culture, Mark Okraku Mantey is in trouble as court has issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

According to reports gathered, Mark Okraku Mantey’s arrest warrant came into existence after failing to appear before the Adentan circuit court.

The bench arrest was issued on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, Mark’s lawyer was also not present at the court without proper permission.

The deputy minister of tourism, arts, and culture is however accused of violating Sections 7 (1) and (2) of the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act.

Mark Okraku Mantey, according to the prosecution, forcefully gained access to a land belonging to one Alhaji Tony Baba, an estate developer residing in North Legon, Accra.

Mark was expected to appear before the court on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, but failed to do so, the same way his legal representative, his Lawyer (attorney) also failed to represent to continue the completion of the case management for the trial to begin according to reports.

Superintendent of Police Patience Mario, prosecuting, asked the court for a bench warrant to arrest the defendant, and it was issued by the court, presided over by Sedinam Awo Balokah.

How it stands, and the matter has therefore been adjourned to Tuesday, February 8, 2022.
