Global tributes are pouring in following the death of Chuck Norris, the legendary martial artist and Hollywood action star, who has died at the age of 86. His passing marks the end of an era for both the martial arts world and the action film industry.
The announcement was made by his family in a statement shared on Instagram, confirming that he died on Thursday morning.
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday (Thursday) morning,” the family said.
They reflected on both his public influence and private life, adding:
“He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives.
“To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength.
“To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.”
Norris rose to global fame through a combination of real-life martial arts excellence and on-screen presence. He became widely recognized for his starring role in the television series Walker, Texas Ranger and his appearance alongside Bruce Lee in the 1972 classic The Way of the Dragon, where he played the formidable villain Colt.

His career began long before Hollywood. Born Carlos Ray Norris in Oklahoma in 1940, he joined the United States Air Force as a teenager. It was during his deployment in South Korea that he began training in martial arts—a pursuit that would define his life.
Over the years, Norris achieved black belts in multiple disciplines, including karate, taekwondo, tang soo do, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and judo. He also developed his own martial arts system, chun kuk do. By the 1960s, he had already established himself as a champion in competitive karate before transitioning into film.
His influence extended beyond entertainment. Political leaders and fellow actors were quick to pay tribute.

Sylvester Stallone described him as a “great man”, adding that he “had a great time working with Chuck” and called him “All American in every way.”
Dolph Lundgren said he “always looked up to him as a role model”, highlighting Norris’ impact on fellow action stars.
US President Donald Trump also reacted, stating he had “the highest respect” for Norris.
“He was a great guy, he was a really tough cookie.”
Meanwhile, Texas Governor Greg Abbott emphasized Norris’ cultural and political influence in the state:
“Texas has lost a legend.
“He was not only a martial arts champion, action icon, and the one and only Walker, Texas Ranger. But he electrified generations of conservatives.
“He embodied the toughness, grit, and patriotism that makes Texas supreme.”
Reports indicate that Norris had been hospitalized in Hawaii shortly before his death due to a medical emergency.
Beyond his professional achievements, Norris remained deeply connected to his family. He is survived by his wife, Gena O’Kelley, and his five children.
