Drug dealer sentenced in connection with Matthew Perrys death

A major ruling has been delivered in the tragic overdose case of Matthew Perry, as a Los Angeles drug dealer tied to his death has been sentenced to 15 years behind bars.

Jasveen Sangha, widely referred to by prosecutors as the “Ketamine Queen,” received her sentence on Wednesday after pleading guilty to multiple federal charges. These included distributing ketamine and one count tied directly to a fatal overdose.

The case centers on the events leading to Perry’s death in October 2023. According to prosecutors, the actor’s assistant purchased around 50 vials of ketamine, a powerful anesthetic that is sometimes abused for its hallucinogenic effects. Authorities say one of those doses ultimately caused the actor’s death.

Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on Friends, was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023. He was 54 years old. An autopsy later confirmed that he died from “the acute effects of ketamine,” with additional factors including drowning, coronary artery disease, and the presence of buprenorphine, an opioid used in addiction treatment.

His passing shocked fans worldwide and triggered a federal investigation that uncovered a broader network of individuals involved in supplying the drug.

Alongside Sangha, four others were charged in connection with the case. These included Perry’s assistant Matthew Iwamasa, acquaintance Erik Fleming, and two medical professionals, Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez. All have entered guilty pleas, though some are still awaiting sentencing.

The sentencing hearing took place at the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, presided over by Sherilyn Garnett.

Emotions ran high in court. Perry’s family attended, including his mother and stepfather, Keith Morrison, who addressed Sangha directly.

“I feel bad for you. I don’t hate you. You are a drug dealer, and there are a lot of drug dealers out there. The fact is you supplied an addict.”

A victim impact statement submitted on behalf of Perry’s stepmother underscored the depth of loss felt by those close to him.

“The pain you’ve caused to hundreds, maybe thousands, is irreversible,” Perry wrote. “There is no joy to be found, no light in the window. They won’t be back.”
