The 38-cap Netherlands international who is a subject for both Chelsea and Bayern Munich has two years remaining on his contract, with 117 appearances across all competitions and has won both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia for the Serie A giants .

The 22-year-old Dutch defeneder, Matthijs de Ligt’s future in Turin is believed to be uncertain, with Chelsea identifying him as one of their primary targets as they look to replace Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

Chelsea supposedly had the early advantage with financial side but Bayern seem to have closed that gap and may in fact be willing to go higher than the Blues, with an offer of 75m rising as high as 90m with add-ons possibly on the table soon.

A fee of 75m rising as high as 90m would see Matthijs de Ligt become the most expensive defender in association football history. It is understood that Juventus are ready to let the Dutchman go but only to the highest bidder between Blues and Reds.

However, the Blues face a tight competition from Bundesliga winners after sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic (45) on wednesday flew to Italy secret negotiations with Juventus chief Federico Cherubini regarding the availability of De Ligt according to Bild.

According to the report, De Ligt is allegedly ‘keen for a move to Bayern’ and he ‘favours their attacking style’ compared with other interested teams in Europe.

Repords adds that De Ligt’s representatives have now stopped talks with other interested teams across Europe including Chelsea and are now hoping to agree terms with Bayern on a deal worth around £64m.

Chelsea could turn their attention to other defensive targets including Nathan Aké of Manchester City and Jules Kounde of Sevilla should they miss out on De Ligt, which is looking increasingly likely.
