Meghan Markle has officially made her return to Instagram after a five-year hiatus, delighting fans with a heartwarming New Year’s Day post.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, launched her personal account with a simple but joyful video captured by her husband, Prince Harry, on a beach near their home in Montecito, California.
In the video, Meghan is seen running barefoot along the shore, her back to the camera, as she playfully traces “2025” in the sand before turning to giggle and jog away.
The picturesque moment, filled with lighthearted energy, marks her first social media appearance since her days with the now-inactive @sussexroyal account.
While Meghan’s post didn’t allow for comments, it received plenty of love in the form of “likes” from close celebrity friends, including Serena Williams, Chrissy Teigen, and Tan France.

By the time her video went live, Meghan had already amassed over 590,000 followers, despite not following any accounts herself.

Meghan’s return to Instagram was teased earlier in an interview with The Cut, where she hinted at her comeback, saying, “Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back…on Instagram.”
The post signifies more than just a return to social media; it marks a new chapter for Meghan, who had deactivated her personal accounts in January 2018, shortly before her engagement to Prince Harry.
It also comes nearly five years after the final post on the couple’s shared Sussex Royal account, which they stopped using in March 2020.
