Lionel Messi wins Ballon d’Or 2021, beats Cristiano Rinaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho

Argentina professional footballer, Lionel Messi makes history once again as he won the just ended men’s 2021 Ballon d’Or award for the seventh time.

The awards ceremony took place on Monday evening, November 29, 2021, at Paris, France.

The 34 year-old PSG striker managed to beat thelikes of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Chelsea’s Jorginho to collect the prize.

Winning this price sets the record straight with between fans of Ronaldo and Messi, Messi was listed alongside his other brother, a five-time winner, Cristiano Rinaldo in the 30 players shortlisted but Ronaldo also lost to Messi as he came 5th on the list.

Ronaldo did not feature in the top three for the first time in 11 years.

Messi winning the 2021 mens Ballon D’or award comes after winning the Copa America with Argentina earlier this year.

Lewandowski did pick up the consolation prize of the newly formed Striker of the Year award, while the Women’s Ballon d’Or went to Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas.

Chelsea Football Club also won award for the Club of the Year for their on-pitch achievements with both men’s and women’s teams.
