In a surprising turn of events, several employees at Meta have been terminated for misusing the company’s meal voucher system, allegedly purchasing items like toothpaste and washing powder instead of food.
Reports indicate that over 30 employees were let go after violating the policy, which prohibits using meal credits for non-food items and sharing vouchers with others.
Meta provides its employees with meal vouchers worth $25 for lunch, $20 for breakfast, and $25 for dinner, intended for ordering food through services like Grubhub.

However, some staff members reportedly took liberties with these vouchers, leading to widespread scrutiny and disciplinary action.
Anonymous posts on the workplace messaging platform Blind corroborate claims that employees received warnings before their termination, though accounts vary on the nature and timing of these warnings.
Some users have stated that while warnings were issued, many were still fired months later despite complying with the rules afterward.
Examples of inappropriate purchases included not just essentials like toothpaste and toothbrushes, but even wine glasses, raising eyebrows about the misuse of company resources.
In addition to the firings related to the voucher system, Meta has been making broader job cuts across various divisions, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and its Reality Labs sector responsible for the Oculus headset.
Jane Manchun Wong, a former security engineer at Meta, announced on social media that she was among those affected by the layoffs.

Wong, who had only joined the company a year ago and was recognized in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list, expressed her shock at losing her job.
Meta has not publicly commented on the specifics of the layoffs or the voucher firings.
A spokesperson did confirm that the company is restructuring teams to align with its long-term strategic goals, emphasizing a commitment to finding new opportunities for impacted employees.
