A Michigan couple is facing serious criminal charges after authorities say their infant son suffered devastating injuries consistent with prolonged abuse, leaving him with lasting disabilities.
Troy Michael Holt, 30, and Alyssa Nicole Holt, 27, were arrested and each charged with first-degree child abuse and torture. Court records show Troy Holt also faces an additional charge of third-degree child abuse.
The case began in November 2025 when deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive 2-month-old at a home in Attica Township, roughly 55 miles north of Detroit. First responders found the infant lethargic and in critical condition.
The child was first taken to McLaren Lapeer Regional Hospital. Doctors quickly escalated care due to the severity of his injuries, transferring him to Hurley Medical Center, where a subdural hemorrhage—a type of brain bleed—was diagnosed.
Medical teams then moved the infant to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. There, doctors uncovered a pattern of injuries far more extensive than initially known. According to investigators, the baby had multiple broken ribs, a fractured forearm, a broken shoulder blade, and retinal hemorrhaging.
Authorities say the child continues to require ongoing medical treatment.
Lapeer County Prosecutor John Miller described the situation as deeply disturbing. He told local station WJRT that the injuries were “very, very irregular for a baby that was only a couple months old.”
Investigators believe the harm occurred over time, not from a single incident. Prosecutors argue the injuries point to repeated abuse rather than accidents.
“He is going to suffer from these injuries for the rest of his life,” Miller told the station.
During early interviews, the parents reportedly claimed the injuries resulted from household accidents. Medical experts later rejected that explanation. One expert consulted by prosecutors concluded the trauma could not have occurred accidentally, leading authorities to seek arrest warrants.
Child protective services intervened early in the investigation. The couple’s parental rights were first restricted to supervised visits before being fully terminated. The infant is now in foster care.
Police arrested Alyssa Holt on May 1 at a residence in Davison Township. Troy Holt was taken into custody later that day at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, where he had been attending Army Reserve training with the Michigan National Guard.
Both remain in custody at the Lapeer County Jail on $200,000 bonds. They are scheduled to return to court on May 8 for a probable cause conference.
