Michigan Mom and Boyfriend Charged with Killing 3-Year-Old to "Make Room" for Their Own Child

Authorities in Michigan have arrested two suspects connected to the tragic death of 3-year-old Matthew Maison, whose lifeless body was discovered seven years ago. The arrests have brought fresh attention to the heartbreaking events that shocked the Port Huron Township community in 2018.

Amanda Maison, 28, and her former partner Maurice Houle, 31, have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of the young boy. Houle also faces additional charges for allegedly assaulting, resisting, or obstructing police during his arrest.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office reported that “significant recent developments” in the case led to the arrests. While specific details remain undisclosed, officials confirmed that the investigation had continued quietly over the years, ultimately culminating in these charges.

Matthew Maison was found unresponsive in his bed on February 18, 2018, at the family home. At the time, public information about his death was sparse, leaving the community with unanswered questions.

During a recent arraignment, prosecutors shared disturbing details about the young boy’s final days. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Josh Sparling revealed that Matthew endured sustained and brutal abuse at the hands of Amanda and Maurice.

“Very cruel, torturous,” Sparling described, outlining how Matthew was forced to kneel for extended periods while banging his head against drywall. He was often locked in a room without food or water, and Houle allegedly pressed a pillow over M

Dr. Daniel Spitz, a medical examiner, determined that Matthew died from blunt force trauma with signs of asphyxiation. The autopsy ruled his death a homicide, consistent with the inflicted trauma described in the investigation.

One of the most horrifying revelations was the claim that the suspects conspired to kill Matthew to “make room” for a child of their own.

The Maison family’s dark history adds another layer to the tragedy. Amanda Maison’s brother, Andrew Maison, and his wife, Hilery Maison, are already serving life sentences without parole for the 2015 murder of Andrew’s 5-year-old daughter, Mackenzie Maison. They were also convicted of abusing another child, Makayla Maison.

The generational pattern of abuse within the family has sparked significant concern, raising questions about missed warning signs and systemic failures.
