The incident occurred on January 13 at Iberville Elementary School, where the principal, whose name has not been released, was ensuring the safety of students during a game after school hours.

Surveillance footage obtained by local news outlets shows the principal trying to guide children away from the basketball court, after spotting two young children near the action. She repeatedly moved the children out of harm’s way.

The altercation began when the principal flagged a mother, 33-year-old Alessia Parker, who was walking by with her three children.

The principal asked Parker to keep her kids off the court, which disrupted the game. According to Plaquemine Police Chief Stephen Engolio, Parker became visibly upset by the request.

The principal was left with a busted lip and head injury, requiring hospital treatment. Despite the injury, she returned to work the following day.

A deputy at the game intervened immediately, and Parker turned herself in the following day. She has been charged with resisting officers, disturbing the peace, and felony battery of a school teacher.

A second woman, 37-year-old Jemecia Godchaux, who was allegedly involved in the incident by egging it on, was also arrested.

Iberville Parish School Board Superintendent Dr. Louis Voiron condemned the incident, saying such behavior would not be tolerated, and both Parker and Godchaux have been banned from all schools in the district.
