Popular Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu is dead. His death was confirmed by a family member as well as the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rolla.

The veteran actor passed away on Saturday afternoon, March 2, 2024.

The news of his death comes a few days after he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Evercare Hospital, Lekki.

Cause of death: Mr. Ibu died of cardiac arrest after he had a relapse about a week ago and was rushed to the Lagos-based hospital.

In October 2023, the experienced actor got sick and needed money to help him out. Then, in November 2023, Okafor’s family told everyone that doctors had to cut off one of his legs to save his life.

The reason for amputating his leg was because there was an infection in the arteries near his ankle, but it wasn’t found soon enough. His old manager, Emeka Chochoo, talked about this in an interview.”

John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, was born on October 17, 1961, in Enugu State, Nigeria. He attended Community Central School, Eziokpo, and completed his secondary education at Boys Secondary School, Nsukka.

Before venturing into acting, he worked as a hairstylist. Mr. Ibu rose to fame for his unique style of comedy, characterized by his exaggerated facial expressions and hilarious antics.
