India – The mutilated body of a woman was discovered in a plastic bag stuffed in a closet in her Mumbai home today, police said. Her 23-year-old daughter was apprehended.

According to police, Veena Jain’s body was mutilated, and pieces of flesh and bones were discovered in a steel box inside a tank. The body had been decomposed in the closet for months.

Rimple Jain was interrogated for several hours before being arrested for allegedly murdering her mother in their home in Mumbai’s Lalbaug neighborhood.

According to senior police officer Praveen Munde, the crime was discovered when the deceased woman’s brother and nephew approached the police on Tuesday and reported her missing. They hadn’t seen her since November 26.

When the police searched Veena Jain’s first-floor apartment, they discovered the plastic bag with its grisly contents in the closet.

Her cause of death has yet to be determined. According to police, Veena Jain fell down the stairs in December.

This is the latest in a series of murders-at-home reported in the last few months. In Delhi’s Shraddha Walkar murder case, 28-year-old Aaftab Poonawala allegedly killed his live-in partner and kept parts of her body in a refrigerator he bought for the purpose, and then scattered those, one by one, across the city’s Mehrauli forest.
