Ghanaian actress and television personality Nana Ama McBrown has publicly confirmed that her marriage to Maxwell Mensah has officially ended, stressing that the separation was mutual, peaceful, and free of conflict.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Cookie Tee on Newsday on TV3, the award-winning entertainer addressed widespread speculation surrounding her personal life, revealing that both she and her former husband jointly decided to go their separate ways after growing weary of the marriage.

According to McBrown, while Maxwell Mensah’s family initially expressed reservations about the decision, the divorce process itself remained cordial. “It was a peaceful agreement between the two of us,” she said, emphasizing that there was no bitterness or hostility involved.

Despite the dissolution of their marriage, McBrown disclosed that she and her ex-husband continue to share a strong bond rooted in friendship and mutual respect. The two remain in constant communication and are committed to co-parenting their daughter responsibly.

“We still talk, we call each other all the time. We are best of friends. Our divorce didn’t happen on a bad note,” she said. “He takes care of his daughter, pays her school fees, and is very responsible, so we are cool. It’s just that both of us were tired of the marriage and decided to go our separate ways.”

McBrown also revealed that her relationship with Maxwell Mensah’s extended family remains intact, particularly with his mother. She noted that the bond between both families has not been affected by the divorce.

“I visit his family, and he does the same with mine. I talk to his children and even go to his mum’s shop at Makola to buy lace or anything I want,” she disclosed.

Addressing rumors that have circulated online, the actress firmly dismissed any claims of abuse or mistreatment during their time together. She described her former husband as a gentleman who treated her with dignity throughout their 12-year union.

“The marriage simply couldn’t work,” she said. “There was no violence or maltreatment involved.”

McBrown further explained that the divorce process was relatively straightforward because the couple did not sign formal marriage documents, having only performed a modest traditional marriage ceremony.

Looking ahead, the celebrated actress revealed she has no intention of remarrying, though she remains open to having more children. She admitted that emotional ties between her and her former husband still exist but maintained that marriage requires more than goodwill and respect.

“I will not marry again. I can give birth again, but I won’t marry again. I have been married for a good twelve years. We have to applaud celebrities in Ghana who are doing TV and acting and are still married.”

She added that if she were ever to consider marriage again, it would only be with Maxwell Mensah, while acknowledging that even kindness and respect do not always guarantee a lasting union.

“If I will marry again, it will be with him. If I am going to remarry another person, then I won’t. My ex-husband, Maxwell, is a nice person, but I wasn’t feeling the marriage. Maxwell never verbally abused me or beat me in the over twelve years that we were married. He is a gentleman, but marriage is more than that.”
