Renowned Ghanaian actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown discussed marriage and motherhood, providing a new perspective that challenges accepted social standards.
McBrown suggested that young people could benefit from delaying marriage and accepting parenting early in life during a conversation on Starr Chat with Bola Ray.
Based on her own life experiences, McBrown recommended that women consider marriage only after the age of 35. She also indicated that males should consider marriage after 40 or 45 years of age.
“I always tell people that if I were young again, I would start thinking about marriage after 35 years. And if I was a man, I would think about marriage after 40 years or probably 45,” McBrown remarked.
McBrown’s stance does not mean that she opposes parenthood before marriage. In reality, she said, “But I can give birth with someone even before I consider marriage.”
The actress’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among some individuals who prioritize personal development and financial stability before entering into marriage. Her perspective resonates with those who believe that the traditional sequence of marriage followed by children might not be the only path to a fulfilling life.
McBrown also touched on the societal pressures that often accompany childbearing outside of marriage. While acknowledging that societal norms often frown upon having children before marriage, she expressed that such decisions are part of life’s unpredictable journey.
“Life comes with its own set of challenges and mistakes,” she explained. “Having a child outside of marriage is one such situation that people might encounter, and while it may be difficult, it is not uncommon.”
Despite identifying as a Christian, McBrown emphasized the importance of balancing religious teachings with the practical realities of life. She noted that while the Bible offers guidance, individuals must also navigate the complexities of their own lives.
Her comments have sparked discussions on social media, with many people reflecting on the pressures of marriage and parenthood in contemporary society.
The conversation has highlighted the evolving attitudes towards marriage and parenthood, particularly in a world where the traditional norms are being increasingly questioned.
