National Security Ministry Bans Drone Usage at Mahama’s Inauguration Ceremony

The Ministry of National Security has issued a directive prohibiting the use of drones at the Independence Square during the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025.

In a press release on Thursday, the Ministry emphasized that the ban applies to all categories of drones, including recreational and commercial devices. This measure aims to ensure the safety and security of attendees and dignitaries expected at the event, which marks the 9th presidential inauguration under Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

“The Ministry of National Security announces a directive prohibiting the operation of drones at the presidential inaugural ceremony on January 7, 2025. This restriction applies to all types of drones and is intended to guarantee the safety and security of visiting guests, dignitaries, and the public,” the statement, signed by Chief Director Lily Fati Soale, partially read.

The directive forms part of a broader security strategy to ensure the smooth and incident-free execution of the ceremony.
