At St. James’ Park, Newcastle defeated West Ham in a thrilling seven-goal match thanks to two late goals from substitute Harvey Barnes.

With only three minutes remaining, Anthony Gordon won a penalty kick for Newcastle, and Alexander Isak converted from 12 yards following a thorough review by the visual assistant referee (VAR).

But after West Ham scored three goals in a row, the game began to slip away from the Magpies.

The Hammers took the lead through Michail Antonio, and shortly after halftime, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen both scored a goal.

After Gordon was once more ruled to have been fouled and Barnes scored the equaliser in the 83rd minute, Isak scored his second penalty of the game.

Newcastle continued pressing forward, helped by a vociferous St James’ Park, and Barnes blasted home a decisive goal in the ninetieth minute.

Newcastle held out for a victory that might be crucial in their quest for European football, but there was more drama to come in injury time when Gordon was given a second yellow card for kicking the ball away.

Newcastle moves up to eighth place, behind West Ham by just one point in seventh.
