Nigeria Explosion: Police confirm 12 dead in Rivers Friday morning explosion

Townflex News, Nigeria – According to the Police Command in Rivers, 12 people have lost their lives in the aftermath of an explosion that occurred on Friday morning in the Emoha Local Government Area’s Rumuekpe community.

Earlier reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) indicated that a bus carrying siphoned crude oil had caught fire as it was leaving the site for an illegal refinery in the area. The explosion claimed the lives of 12 people and the situation is currently being investigated by the authorities.

The Police Command in Rivers has revealed that the victims of the explosion in the Rumuekpe community were apparently scooping crude oil when the site caught fire.

In a statement issued by SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s spokesperson, preliminary investigations suggest that the incident resulted from the unauthorized extraction of crude oil.

“So far about 12 persons are believed to have bee burnt to death. The identities of the victims are still unknown,” she stated.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Police Command in Rivers, has disclosed that the explosion that claimed 12 lives in the Rumuekpe community also resulted in the destruction of several vehicles. According to Iringe-Koko, five vehicles and four tricycles were completely destroyed by the fire at the explosion site.

The Police Command in Rivers has issued a warning to the public, urging them to stay away from illegal oil bunkering. Members of the public were advised to contact the authorities on 08032003514 and 08098880134 if they have information about any criminal activity.
