Nigeria Owo Church Attack: Gunmen Kill Dozens Of Worshippers

A Sunday which is supposed to be a day for joy has now turned bloody and a black Sunday for Nigerians as terrorists attacked and killed dozens of worshipers at a Catholic church in southwestern Nigeria.

Nigeria in recent times has been struggling as it has been experiencing high increase in the number of violence and kidnap attacks.

Nigeria Owo Church Attack: On Sunday, june 5th, 2022, while church service was underway, a group of armed men entered St Francis Catholic church in the town of Owo fired shots and also kidnapped a priest as well as some church members.

This led to many getting injured and also many feared dead including children as a result of the gunshot fired into the worshiping congregation.

The total number of persons who have been confirmed dead remains unconfirmed to us as of the time of this very post.

A Doctor who works at a local hospital also confirmed that many of the church menbers were brought in dead.

The Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has after the incident reacted by taken to his official Twitter account and made a series of post condemning the act of the attack and also called for calm.

He asked that people remained calm and not try take the laws into their own has but rather give the law enforcement agencies the chance to do their works and bring to justice the wrongdoers.

He said;

“I am deeply saddened by the unprovoked attack and killing of innocent people of Owo, worshiping at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Today.

“The vile & satanic attack is a calculated assault on the peace-loving people of Owo Kingdom who have enjoyed relative peace over the years.

“It is a black Sunday in Owo. Our hearts are heavy. Our peace and tranquility have been attacked by the enemies of the people. This is a personal loss, an attack on our dear state.

“I have spoken to the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ondo, Most Reverend Jude Arogundade, who is presently on his way to Owo. Similarly, I have had to cut short my party’s national assignment in Abuja and visit Owo immediately.

“This is an unexpected development. I am shocked to say the least. Nevertheless, We shall commit every available resource to hunt down these assailants and make them pay. We shall never bow to the machinations of heartless elements in our resolves to rid our state of criminals.

“I commiserate with my people in Owo, particularly families of the those who lost their lives to this ugly and unfortunate attack.

“I urge our people to remain calm and vigilant. Do not take laws into your hands. I have spoken to the heads of the security agencies. I have equally been assured that security operatives would be deployed to monitor and restore normalcy to Owo kingdom.”
