The Federal Government of Nigeria has once again given updates regarding the ban placed on Micro-blogging site, Twitter.

It would be recalled that back in June 4th, 2021, the Federal Nigerian government announced the indefinite suspension of Twitter operations in the country.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed back then said that the reason behind the ban of Twitter in Nigeria is the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.

Well, Nigeria has however given Twitter 12 conditions that they are to meet, meaning until they are able to meet the conditions, bringing back the service of Twitter will not be possible.

Update On Twitter Suspension In Nigeria

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, responded to questions asked by a lady participant at the Nigeria International Partnership Forum in Paris, who wanted to know the circumstances behind the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria.

Responding to Lai Mohammed who never expected such a question, however, took his time to explain. According to him, Twitter has not been banned in Nigeria, adding that it was only suspended.

He continued by saying that the suspension has nothing to do with President Muhammadu Buhari.

He again said that the correspondences between Naija and Twitter have reached an advanced stage, but they are working together in fixing the issue soon.

According to Lai Mohammed, they still have a few more issues that need to be resolved first, and that out of the 12 conditions, Twitter has been able to meet 10, which means hopefully the issues between them will be resolved.

He said:

“I want to categorically say that Twitter was not banned by Nigeria, it was only suspended. So, Twitter was never banned, it was suspended. “Also, the suspension has nothing to do with President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The correspondences between us and Twitter have reached an advanced stage. I want to say that the correspondences and the exchanges have been fruitful.

“But we have a few more issues to resolve. Out of about 12 conditions, Twitter has been able to meet 10. “Very soon, all issues will be resolved in a way that will be good for both our country and Twitter.”
