Aisha Lawal, a Nigerian woman, has recently spoken out in defense of second wives, saying they should not be blamed for “snatching” anyone’s husband.
In a statement shared on social media, Lawal argued that second wives simply find the love of their lives and marry them, just as the first wife did.
“Second wife didn’t snatch anybody’s husband, she found the love of her life, just as you did and married him,” Lawal wrote on Monday.
She even went further, saying the same could apply to third and fourth wives as well.
Her post sparked a conversation about polygamy and the complexities of marriage in some cultures, with many supporting her point that love cannot be restricted to one person alone.

Lawal’s words challenge the common perception that second wives are homewreckers, emphasizing that love and marriage are personal choices, and every wife, whether first or second, deserves respect.
Though polygamy is still practiced in certain regions of Nigeria, the topic remains controversial and often sparks debates about relationships, societal expectations, and the treatment of women.
Lawal’s statement provides a fresh perspective on the issue, suggesting that rather than seeing second wives as rivals, they should be viewed as women who found love and happiness in their own right.
