Barack Obama has once again shared his annual playlist of favorite tracks, and this year, two Nigerian artists have earned a spot.
On December 21, Obama unveiled his 2024 list, which features the music of Asake and Rema, marking a significant recognition for Nigerian talent on the global stage.
As part of his tradition, the former U.S. president curates a collection of songs that have captured his attention over the year.
Among these, Rema’s hit track “Yayo” and Asake’s “Active,” which features American rapper Travis Scott, stand out.
Their inclusion in Obama’s playlist is a testament to the growing global influence of Nigerian artists in the music scene.

In addition to the Nigerian stars, the list includes music from other international talents like South African artist Tyla, whose song “Jump” (featuring Gunna and Skillibeng) also made the cut.
Nigerian-American artists Shaboozey and Jordan Adetunji were highlighted as well, with their tracks “A Bar Song” and “Kehlani,” respectively.
The playlist isn’t just limited to African artists; global stars like Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, and Karol G also feature prominently.
Obama shared his enthusiasm for the playlist on social media, saying, “Here are my favorite songs from this year! Check them out if you’re looking to shake up your playlist – and let me know if there’s a song or artiste I should make sure to listen to.”
This year’s list reflects Obama’s eclectic taste in music, embracing a wide range of genres and highlighting the diverse talent that continues to shape the global music landscape.
