A tragic shooting has taken place in Greensboro, North Carolina, just days before Christmas.
Officer Michael Horan of the Greensboro Police Department was fatally shot while responding to a call about a “man with a firearm” at the Food Lion supermarket on the morning of December 23.
The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. inside the store, leaving Officer Horan critically injured. Despite efforts to save him, he later succumbed to his wounds.
The suspect, who fled the scene, was apprehended after a high-speed chase. The suspect’s identity has not been publicly released.
Ramona Miller, who was inside the store with her granddaughter at the time, described hearing multiple gunshots before realizing there was an active shooting.
She recounted the frightening moment to WGHP-TV, recalling the store employee’s shout of “shooting! shooting!” as she witnessed the chaos unfold.

The Greensboro Police Department and local law enforcement have assured the public that there is no further threat.
Food Lion, where the incident occurred, is cooperating with authorities during the ongoing investigation.
Greensboro Police Assistant Chief MJ Harris and City Manager Trey Davis expressed their grief, offering condolences to Officer Horan’s family and colleagues.
Horan, who was highly respected both within the department and the community, leaves behind a wife, children, and a legacy of service.
He had been with the Greensboro Police Department since 2017 and had a distinguished career, including service in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Governor Roy Cooper also expressed his support, sending additional state law enforcement personnel to assist with the response.
A fundraiser has been established to support Officer Horan’s family during this difficult time.
