The year 2022 just began, and already sad news follows it as just the second day in the year, January 2, 2022, bad new hits the people of Ibadan in Nigerian as Olubadan, king of Ibadanland has been confirmed dead.
Olubadan (Yoruba: Lord of Ibadan) is the royal title of the king of Ibadanland in Nigeria. Ibadan was founded in the 16th century, but the present Yoruba people only took control around 1820.
Oba Adetunji was crowned the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan following his coronation on March 4, 2016.

According to reports gathered, the 93-years-old monarch passed away on Sunday morning, January 2, 2022, in the early hours of Sunday at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, Oyo state.
Olubadan is dead: The news of this death was confirmed by palace sources who pleaded anonymity on Sunday.
Update: Olubadan’s body arrives palace
The body of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has arrived at the Popoyemoja Palace, Ibadan.
His remains was conveyed in an ambulance of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
His body arrived at about 10:40am. Clerics were already at the palace for prayers.
Saliu Adetunji was a Nigerian monarch who sat as the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan following his coronation on March 4, 2016.
Saliu was born as the first of 17 children of Raji Olayiwola and Suwebat Amope Adetunji on August 26, 1928 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
He grew up learning vocational jobs until he took up fashion designing as a means of living after moving into Lagos.
While working as a fashion designer, Saliu delved into musical record marketing until in 1960 when he founded his first of three record label imprints called Baba Laje Records which housed notable fuji music acts including Dauda Epo-Akara and Wasiu Ayinde Marshall.
