Our political system is a disease, I refuse to be infected – Nkem Owoh

Veteran Nigerian actor, Nkem Owoh, best known as Osofia has spoken about Nigeria’s political system, describing it as a ‘disease’, one which he refuses to be infected by.

Unlike many Nigerian celebrities who prefer to get engaged and be active in politics by backing politicians and all that, Osofia is one of the few who has no taste for such and does his hardest to avoid politics.

Back in August 2022, rumors surfaced that the actor turned down N10 million ($21,664) to endorse All Progressives Congress, APC flagbearer, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, prompting him to respond, “I don’t want to confirm it, I am not interested in politics.”

Osofia revealed in a recent interview with the Punch Newspaper that despite being enticed by numerous individuals, he has refused to enter politics.

Speaking on Nigeria’s impending general elections, the actor stated that he will only go and cast his vote and come back home as he maintain his tradition of abstaining from politics, which he views as a cancer that he does not want to be infected by.

Nkem Owoh said;

“I will just go and vote. I have tried to reject Nigerian politics in its entirety even though I know there are still some good people inside the polity, but the system is like a diseased mesh.

“People have tried to draw me into politics but I know that if I put my head into it, I will be infected with the disease and I don’t want it. So, I prefer to stay at the flank. The country will become better when we have reasonable leadership in all directions. And soon it is going to come because I can see the rumples.
