Authorities in Pennsylvania have charged a 28-year-old man with attempted murder following a violent stabbing inside a Planet Fitness gym, an incident that left an employee hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, identified as Davier Massey, is accused of attacking a staff member after being barred from the fitness center over an unpaid membership balance. Investigators say the confrontation escalated rapidly, culminating in multiple stab wounds inflicted on the victim.

According to the Cheltenham Township Police Department, the situation unfolded around 12:30 p.m. when Massey returned to the gym and began causing a disturbance. Witness accounts and preliminary findings suggest an argument broke out between Massey and an employee before turning violent.

Emergency responders arrived to find the victim suffering from severe injuries. The individual was transported to a nearby trauma center “for treatment for life threatening injuries,” authorities confirmed. The employee is now reported to be in recovery.

Police located Massey a short distance from the scene shortly after the attack and took him into custody. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.

Prosecutors have filed a wide range of charges against Massey, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and possession of an instrument of crime. Additional counts include reckless endangerment, harassment, disorderly conduct, and criminal mischief.

Investigators revealed that Massey had been officially banned from the gym the day before the incident due to an outstanding bill. Despite leaving the premises earlier on the day of the attack, he later returned, leading to the violent encounter.

Massey is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on April 16.

In response to the incident, the company issued a statement expressing concern for its employee: “We are saddened by the incident that took place at our Cheltenham location,” Planet Fitness said. “Our thoughts are with the team member as they recover. We appreciate local law enforcement’s quick action, and the franchise owner is fully supporting them in their investigation.”

The case remains under active investigation.
