Pennsylvania crash

A 26-year-old woman is facing serious criminal charges after a deadly wrong-way crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike left a motorcyclist dead. Authorities say she has not yet been found.

The Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Friday that Onanyeli Rosario-Mesa, of Allentown, has been charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, along with several related offenses. An arrest warrant is now active, but investigators say she remains at large.

The charges stem from a March 30 crash on Interstate 476 in Washington Township. Prosecutors allege Rosario-Mesa drove southbound in the northbound lanes, creating a high-speed danger for oncoming traffic. She then collided with a group of motorcyclists traveling legally on the roadway.

One of the riders, John Sweeney Jr., 50, of Bristol, was killed at the scene. He had been riding with a small group when the crash occurred.

Investigators reviewed video footage from the highway. They say it shows Rosario-Mesa’s vehicle moving against traffic while other drivers pulled over to avoid impact.

“She blew by me. It’s not like she was doing 30. She was doing 70, 80, 90 miles an hour. I was doing 65,” a driver told Action News last year.

Officials have not released details on what led Rosario-Mesa to drive in the wrong direction. The case remains under active investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about her location to contact Pennsylvania State Police or the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
