Pep Guardiola, the highly successful manager of Manchester City, has agreed to a one-year contract extension that includes the option of a further year, keeping him at the club until 2027.
The 53-year-old’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of this season, leaving his long-term future at the club uncertain.
However, Guardiola has now put those doubts to rest by agreeing to a new deal that will keep him in charge for at least another year, with the possibility of extending his stay until 2026.
The news, initially reported by The Athletic’s Sam Lee, is a huge boost for Manchester City and a significant blow to their rivals, who have been waiting for clarity on Guardiola’s future.

Speculation had been rising over Guardiola’s future at the club, especially after the departure of City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, and the announcement of Hugo Viana as his replacement in October.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the extension, adding that Guardiola’s contract would run through June 2025, with an option for an additional year until June 2026.
