Peruvian authorities have launched an official investigation following the leak of pop star Shakira’s medical records after she was treated at a clinic in Lima.
The 48-year-old Colombian singer had been admitted to the emergency room on Saturday for an abdominal condition, which forced her to cancel a highly anticipated concert scheduled for Sunday, February 16.
Shortly after her hospitalization, details of her private medical report began circulating on social media, sparking public outrage and prompting authorities to take swift action.
The Peruvian health service watchdog confirmed that an investigation into the breach was underway, and the clinic involved, the Delgado Clinic, could face fines of up to $430,000 for violating patient confidentiality.
A spokesperson for the National Health Service stated that officials have already met with the clinic’s representatives to discuss the issue.
The investigation is expected to take around 25 days to conclude.

The Delgado Clinic has since condemned the leak, calling it a “serious ethical breach.” The clinic also announced that internal disciplinary measures would be taken against those responsible for the unauthorized release of the information.
Despite the scandal, Shakira resumed her world tour, performing in Lima on Monday night. She took to social media to express her gratitude to her fans, thanking them for their “love and care” during the difficult time.
Shakira’s Las mujeres ya no lloran (Women Don’t Cry Anymore) tour had already begun in Rio de Janeiro, where the singer recently won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album.
The award was dedicated to U.S. migrants facing deportation under President Donald Trump. With over 90 million records sold globally, Shakira remains one of the most influential Latin artists in the world.
