Ghana police accra gun

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a widely circulated viral video firing a gun at a public event in Accra, raising serious concerns about public safety and unlawful use of firearms.

According to an official press release from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the suspect was identified through cyber vetting efforts after footage emerged showing a firearm being discharged at the El-Wak Stadium on December 28, 2025.

Police say the suspect, Abubakari Sadick, popularly known as “Cyborg,” was arrested the following day, December 29, at Adenta. He is facing allegations related to the possession and discharge of a firearm at a public gathering.

Investigators confirmed that the weapon used in the incident, a Derya MK-12 firearm bearing registration number 22-GHA-1162 has been retrieved and secured as evidence.

“The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, and will be put before the court to face justice,” the CID stated.

In the same release, the Ghana Police Service issued a strong warning to the public, emphasizing that owning a registered firearm does not permit indiscriminate use.

Authorities cautioned that firearm licenses can be revoked, and offenders may face prosecution if found to have violated firearms regulations.

The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigation Department.
