Premier League Announces Two Summer Transfer Windows in 2025

The Premier League has announced that there will be two separate windows this year due to the “exceptional” circumstances surrounding the FIFA Club World Cup.

The first transfer window will open earlier than usual, running from Sunday, June 1, through Tuesday, June 10.

After closing temporarily, the window will reopen on Monday, June 16, and continue until the traditional deadline on Monday, September 1.

The decision comes in response to FIFA’s announcement last October of an interim transfer window for clubs participating in the Club World Cup, which kicks off in the United States on June 14.

Clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City, who will be competing in the prestigious tournament, will now have an opportunity to strengthen their squads or finalize contract extensions ahead of the event.

Premier League clubs had voiced their concerns about being at a competitive disadvantage if they were unable to make transfers during the period when the Club World Cup is taking place.

In response, they lobbied for an earlier domestic window, which would give them a chance to complete transfers before the tournament begins.

After a Premier League meeting on Thursday, a consensus was reached, and the league confirmed the new transfer schedule. The first window will open from June 1 to June 10, then reopen on June 16.

This change ensures that Premier League clubs are able to make key signings and adjustments while still respecting the demands of international competitions.

In comparison, last year’s summer transfer window was open from June 14 to August 30, with no special adjustments made for the Club World Cup.

This new arrangement for 2025 reflects the league’s adaptability to the needs of its clubs and the evolving global football calendar.
