This judicial move comes on the heels of a ruling by Justice Harry Acheampong Poku, who serves as the vacation judge at the Sunyani High Court. Justice Poku has granted a “motion on notice for contempt” filed by Nana Obiri Boahen.

The core of the motion revolves around the alleged contemptuous behavior exhibited by the named police officers. It is claimed that they have shown disregard for a judgment handed down by Justice Sylvester Nii Okine Ablorh on July 28, 2022, in a circuit court.

Nana Obiri Boahen’s legal team has filed an affidavit that lays out his grievances. In it, he accuses DSP Gyasi of consistently intimidating, harassing, and bullying his agents who operate on his privately acquired land.

Despite receiving a favorable judgment from the circuit court, the police officers continued to ignore the court’s decision and persisted in their actions against his agents. Letters notifying them of the judgment were reportedly served, but their actions remained unchanged.

According to the affidavit, the police officers have justified their actions under the pretext of orders from the IGP. This continued defiance of court orders has raised questions about the officers’ commitment to upholding the law and respecting the judiciary’s authority.
